For the first week of class, we were introduced to a new module by Mr Martin, which is Video Editing and Production. The main project will be divided into several processes, and we will have 2 projects and a final project.

For the first week, Mr Martin shows us a few examples of work from seniors and also explained to us regarding the final project. He also show us a video about the disappearance of humans from earth and explained that the theme of our final project will be 'End of the World'. We were then asked to research and come out with ideas on our story in accordance to the theme.

During Week 2, Mr Martin gave us a lecture regarding shots and also screen direction. Mr Martin explained that shots are like the visual language of communication through screens. He then explained that there are about 8 types of shots and 2 types of screen directions.

Types of Shots:
Extreme Wide Shot

Week 3 (10th April 2018)

On the third week of class, Mr Martin taught us about 3-Act Structure, which is divided into three, which is the beginning, middle and the end.
The beginning is the set up or introduction of the story, the middle is the confrontation of the problem, and the end is the resolution of the problem.

Mr Martin asked us to use the 3-Act Structure as a guide for writing our story for our project. After the lecture, Mr Martin show us 2 short films and asked us to determine the plot points and the 3-Act Structure for the short film. The two short films are The Piano Tuner and Lalin.

Mr Martin also explained the plot points and structure for us after watching. We then discussed the next exercise, which is our first shooting exercise, which we will be filming a short film. We then discussed our roles for the short film, and I will be one of the art directors for the short film exercise.

Week 4 (17th April 2018)

On the fourth week, there is no lecture as we will be filming our first exercise with my groupmates, my group have to film a Hard Sell version of a Thailand commercial for soap. For this exercise, I brought some Thai soap from home for the shooting exercise. I also request to film at the commercial block in our university in a small grocery shop called Daily Mart as a grocery setting will best fit the shooting scene. At first, it is hard to get permission to shoot in the commercial block but after a few discussion with the manager and also with Mr Martin's help, we finally get to complete shooting in the commercial block. It was fun to film with the group. The most challenging part is getting the scene to look right, and the camera angles to work nicely. But after shooting for a little while, we manage to get it right and the filming to go on smoothly. After shooting, we went back to the classroom to get our clips out of the camera for editing the next week.

Week 5 (24th April 2018)

During the fifth week of class, Mr Martin taught us about Lighting and Mise En Scene. The things that are found in Mise En Scene are:

1. Decors and Props
2. Lighting
3. Space
4. Costume and Make Up
5. Movement and Acting

He also explained about 3-point lighting, which is high key and low key lighting. There is also space, which talks about deep space and also shallow space. After the lecture, we were then asked to edit our videos from the previous week's shooting exercise.

Week 6 (1st May 2018)

There is no lecture for this week.

Week 7 (8th May 2018)

For this week, Mr Martin taught us about colour grading and colour correction.

Colour Grading is used in fictional movies to create a cinematic effect. The colours for colour grading are more extreme.

Colour Correction is used in documentaries where exposure, contrast and colors are adjusted to make the overall film look more neutral. To do colour correcting, we have to look at highlight, midtones and shadows and also to look at the waveform monitor in order to look at the distribution of exposure.

After the lecture, Mr Martin asked us to use colour grading and colour correction on our first shooting exercise. We then experimented with the colours to get the colour that best suit the commercial, which is an orange teal colour.

Week 8 (15th May 2018)

There is no lecture for this week.

Although there were no classes for this week, we were required to do a second shooting exercise next week. We then discussed our roles for the shooting exercise, where we will reverse of switch roles amongst our groups so that we can experience being in a different role. For the second exercise, my role is to be one of the actresses for the shooting exercise.

Week 9 (22nd May 2018)

For this week, we attempted our second shooting exercise, which is to shoot a film about a Toilet Paper commercial. We shoot our scenes in Taylor's University. The shooting went well as this is our second attempt to shoot a film. After shooting, we then went home to finish our editing.

Week 10 to Week 14 (29th May 2018 - 26th June 2018)

During week 10 to week 14, we will be consulting Mr Martin about our final project, which is the short film.
