Week 1
1st April 2019

For the first class, which is 1st April 2019, Dr. Noor Hayati briefed us on our Design Research Dissertation module. She then asked us if anyone wanted to change our topic. I wanted to change my topic for this semester due to the fact that I could not possibly produce a game for my final year project. I then discussed this to Dr. Noor Hayati and decided upon the topic of Character Design. It is still related to game design but with an added element of Character Design. She then explained to the class that we might have a presentation on Friday regarding our final outcome for our final year project and propose our ideas to a team of panelist that we'll be presenting to. The panelist will then decide if our final outcome can work or not and we'll then proceed to do our dissertation regarding the topic of our final outcome.

4th April 2019

After Dr. Noor Hayati communicated with us regarding the date and time for the presentation, which is on the 4th of April at 2pm, we will then proceed to present our proposal for our idea to the panelist. I then presented my idea, which is about creating a motion comic for character design for a game. The panelist mentioned that it will be a bad idea to create a motion comic for a game as it is unrelated, as a comic is a comic and a game is a game, and we should instead create a character animation or a character bible. In short, I should completely ditch the main topic of game design and instead focus on the main topic animation instead as it is more fitting.

25th April 2019

For today, we were supposed to start our dissertation skeleton. Based on our final report from the previous Design Research Methodology module, we have to source out information that we would like to include in our Dissertation. We are also able to include any new information that we have researched in our Dissertation.

Week 5
29th April 2019

For today, we are supposed to show our Dissertation skeleton to Dr. Hayati for review and commentary. We were placed into groups of our own respective fields, e.g. Game Design, so that Dr. Hayati can give us our own specialized lectures and we would not have to clash with the people that are doing their Dissertation in other fields. Dr. Hayati then gave us some information on how to write our Dissertation and what to include in our Discussion section. Some things that she mentioned in the lecture are:

Introductions in Dissertations should be an overview of the Dissertation itself.
The problem statement should come before the aim and objectives.
We should understand the articles that we are researching on. Are the 10 articles useful? If useful, then look at their keywords, if keywords are useful, can be used as subtopic for literature review. Reflective critical review and analysis come from secondary data and articles. Literature review: compare and contrast similarities and differences between views. Evaluate own version of thoughts. Must have continuity, if not there is no flow. Discussion is not a literature review, but when you have highlighted research data founded by journals and articles, relate it to research finding, does it compare with your own findings? If so, highlight it in your dissertation discussion section. Limitations discovered? Time? Participants, not experts? Bias? Not enough time to digest data? Acknowledge difficulties and challenges. 3 triangulate: Finding, originally listed objectives, originally listed problem statements.
